Seven songs dedicated to seven inspirational women who, each in their own way, shaped our modern world through the lenses of science, political activism, and the arts.
With an intimate approach, I composed this album as personal odes to these women. I celebrate their heritage and their achievements through instrumental references (the traditional Persian santoor in “One for Wall-E”, or the saxophone-focused “Mamie Till” hinting at this heroine’s home town and the origins of jazz), and through song structure (the abrupt changes and rhythmic aspects imitating characteristics of uranium in “U235”; or the opulent, melodic approach reminding of Renaissance paintings in "Il Verno”). I pair these with my very own association to each of these women, so that the songs turn into touching dialogues of minimal jazz, richly improvised, between the band and their protagonists.
